Hallux Valgus

Hallux Valgus, also known as a Bunion, is a progressive deformity of the great toe at the metatarsophalangeal (MTP) joint. The 1st metatarsal is angled medially followed by the proximal phalanx being angled sharply in a lateral direction creating a pronounced angle at the MTP joint.  Hallux valgus can cause considerable pain and dysfunction of the foot.

The Lis Franc joints (named for Jacques Lisfranc de St. Martin, a French surgeon) are the tarsometatarsal (TMT) joints.  A Lis Franc fracture occurs when one of more of the metatarsals is fractured and/or displaced at the TMT joints.  In this Xray, the  TMT joint 2-4 are displaced laterally and the metatarsals are fractured just proximal to the metatarsal heads
